Review of Quarantine UK - A Managed Quarantine Experience in 2021
Things you may find useful to know before you go into hotel quarantine in the UK based on my stay in a Quarantine Hotel in London
By special request my English breakfast this morning was replaced with fresh fruit consisting of an apple, orange and banana. Alongside the side dishes of orange juice, fruit salad, yogurt and croissant this made for a decent breakfast for me. Notably missing was the butter which, had I wanted anything on my croissant, would have been my preferred option over the jam. Since the croissant was just as fresh as yesterday this wasn’t a problem as I ate it without either.
The Tuna Melt Ciabatta was not too bad, but not all that great either. The ciabatta itself was nice, but the filling was a little disappointing. It was hot when it arrived but the cheese had only partially melted.
The Mozarella and Pesto Pasta salad was not terribly inspiring, but then I am not a fan of either mozzarella or pesto. The pasta also had lots of grains mixed in which didn’t really seem to add anything other than texture. It was very bland indeed (in stark contrast to the mashed potato in day 0) but edible and I ate a mouthful or two from each part of it.
The tiny fork which came in the salad was something those who buy takeaway salads regularly may be used to but was amusing to me, marginally better was the plastic knife and fork with napkin in a packet sealed with some salt and pepper (that is in addition to the packets of salt an pepper which came on the tray, now I know I did say the salad was bland but 2 packets of salt and pepper? I think that is a little excessive, I hope those packets are re-used). In a similar vein of thought, what I assume from the design of the packet was a packet of mayonnaise I could understand with a salad, but what I was supposed to put the tomato sauce on?
A chocolate bar (twix), a banana and a fizzy drink (fanta orange) also accompanied the meal.
In keeping with what I hope was to be the new pattern, dinner was the highlight meal of the day.
The braised steak was absolutely melt in the mouth tender and full of flavour, you could have eaten if with just a fork, the buttered new potatoes were a welcome change from the rich and salty potatoes of the previous dinners and there was even an attempt at some vegetable in the form of baby carrots.
Dessert was a chocolate cheesecake which was pretty good I think. I’m not a fan of chocolate (I know, I can hear you gasp from here) but I still enjoyed it so it must have been pretty good.
Best meal yet. To whichever chef put this dinner on the menu, THANK YOU!
