Review of Quarantine UK - A Managed Quarantine Experience in 2021
Things you may find useful to know before you go into hotel quarantine in the UK based on my stay in a Quarantine Hotel in London
LOL, the breakfast meal lucky dip bag continues.
My first reaction on peering into the bag at 8.45am was “Yeah, finally a correct order”. There was no sign of the boiled eggs and cheese but instead some fresh fruit. I was impressed, yesterday I cancelled the eggs and cheese so something in the system was working.
My jubilation was short lived, as I emptied out the bag to find that the croissant packet had already been opened, and there was no yogurt in the bag.
My final breakfast selection, minus the opened croissant then was a fruit juice, fruit salad, vanilla yogurt, 2 croissants with a pot of apricot jam, a banana and the most enormous orange! It did of course have the 2 packets of tomato sauce to go with the….? No I don’t know either. And I have just realised that there has not been any butter since I cancelled the hot breakfast, is the butter supposed to be drizzled over your scrambled eggs or something in case your hot breakfast is not greasy enough?
Just for some variety I chose to go with the chunky egg and watercress on Bakers Loaf after last weeks OK but not fantastic sweet chilli wrap.
But first the soup, as with last week the soup was one of the nicest on the menu, as long as you don’t mind soup with a bit of a kick. It would have been even nicer if I hadn’t spent so much time playing with my food and laying it out for photos and ate it while it was still hot. The roll at some point was probably warm judging by the condensation build up on the container but was already stone cold by the time it arrived at my door shortly after 12 noon.
The sandwich? As egg and watercress sandwiches go I would say it was pretty good, about what you would expect. If I am being picky, and I usually am, the egg mayonnaise could have handled a little seasoning (I know ironic for someone who is always complaining things are too salty) but the bread was nice and soft, there was plenty of egg filling and the subtle crunch and flavour of the watercress came through to add a just a touch of class to what was in essence an egg mayo sandwich.
As usual lunch was accompanied by a fizzy drink and today selection of crisps and fruit was Jalepeno and Dill flavoured crisps and a slightly green looking banana. Luckily I have a selection of fruit saved up from other lunches and breakfasts.
If you tucked into tonight’s main course expecting more of last weeks mild curry then you would soon be reaching for a drink, this weeks Lamb Rogan Josh was the real deal. Not being an expert on curries I looked it up and dentons.com gives Rogan Josh curry scores a 3 out of 5 for spicy, I would say that is exactly where this curry fell.
If you enjoy curry then you would enjoy this, it definitely had a kick to it but it was also full of flavour and the lamb was tender. I didn’t make the same mistake as last week where I was left with a pile of rice and no sauce, the first thing I did after the initial taste was tip the contents of my curry pot over the rice, and then I tucked in.
Again the poppadoms didn’t keep all that well under a lid, but
they was a hint of a crunch remaining and I still enjoyed them.
If on the other hand you are not a fan of spicy food and you don’t
consider Tofu to fall into any food group then tonight’s menu options
would certainly disappoint.
The dessert was nice, but not one of my favourites. The biscuit base was lovely, light and crunchy, and I enjoyed the raspberry coulée which was streaked in the white chocolate mousse and drizzled on top. The chocolate mousse section itself didn’t have a great deal of white chocolate flavour which suited me since I am not a fan of white chocolate, and what looked like lumps of icing sugar on the top was the only hint of meringue which was a bit disappointing for a dessert touted asWhite Chocolate & Raspberry Meringue.
Something I did notice with tonight’s meal, mainly because it has been missing previously, is that the drinks were cold. Not sure if that was the case for everyone but my special order orange juice was chilled beautifully.
So that’s it, 10 days of Quarantine Food.
